I am presented with opportunities to teach my children almost by the minute. I’m laying a foundation.

For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 3:9-11)

As a parent I have a foundation to build. I need to lay a spiritual framework as well as a life framework. All of the lessons I teach will be tested at some point. My hope is that these teachings will withstand the false ideas that would harm my children as they grow and make choices.

For this to happen, I need to practice what I preach. I’ve been learning lessons all of my life. I’ve also continued to learn lessons that were never taught to me, but are very important. God teaches me through his words and through other people. Learn and build – make choices – learn and rebuild… carefully.
