"Oh, but my case is different." Another version states, "Oh, but his case is different, he is one of us."

The list of variations could continue well into tonight, but you get the idea, we do not really want a level playing or living field, but one that is loaded in our favor, and designed to bury anyone else.

As a pastor I have heard them all and admit with shamefaced honesty to have given a few myself about myself.

It would be helpful if we would lead sin free lives, but only one, Christ Himself, has succeeded in this endeavor. Next best is to learn to live without excuse. To live without making excuses but owning up to our sins, mistakes or whatever name you put on your shortcomings, admit, forsake and ask for forgiveness and get on with living. This formula is very easy to write.

Ivern Ball put a finger on the main problem with us mere humans with this:

"Most of us can read the writing on the wall; we just assume it's addressed to someone else."

"Other" people need to know the truth of Numbers 32:23

"Be sure your sin will find you out"

and "other" nations need to know again this truth from Psalms 9:17

"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."

As in the days of Daniel of the Lion's Den fame, so in our day, God is faithfully warning folks that it is time to make decisions that bring eternal benefits through Jesus Christ. It is not only "time for all good men everywhere to come to the aid of their country" but approaching past time for each of us to grasp the fact that God's truth is for us and as we have it we become responsible to follow the path laid out by His truth.

God's Word is for you; your assumption otherwise not withstanding.
