Sunshine Lady

Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them.

Matthew 6:1


No one knew who the middle age woman was. She always quietly walked into the pediatric wing of the University of Oklahoma Hospital. Whenever she left, there was an anonymous path of sunshine wherever she had walked. So the hospital staff just referred to the woman as the “sunshine lady.”

While waiting for one of my youthful clients to receive a final okay to leave the examining physician’s care, she came out of nowhere with a big mysterious box under her arms. She slipped in and out of every room as quiet as an angel and then she was gone.

I was given permission to retrace the sunshine lady’s path. Tucked under each sick or sleeping child was a 6 to 8 inch hand made teddy bear. A path of sunshine and good will towards all children!

Not one child would ever know who brought them the hand holdable, huggable companion to share her or his hospital fears, sufferings and pains. The sunshine lady would have no thank yous, no compliments or news cameras to expose the works of God. Just anonymous, unconditional love would rule this day for a floor of little ones. That was enough for her.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to do some unseen acts of kindness this day, just for the love of you!
