The heavens declare the glory of God, and the heavens show his handiwork!

Psalms 19:1 (NIV)

One of my summer jobs as a college student was working at the Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison Army Post, Indianapolis, Indiana. After spending roughly five hours sorting Army personnel checks, bonds and financial records and information, summer employees, other full time personnel and I often ate our lunches under tall stands of trees surrounded by a picturesque Indiana landscape to discuss a variety of topics.

On this particular day we talked about whether there is a God. I learned rather quickly that I was the only professing Christian in the work group. I tried desperately to think of an argument that would convince the work group once and for all that there is a God.

Nonetheless, everything I came up with was immediately refuted. Finally, Debbie, who sat only a few feet from me spoke up, “So, who do we thank for all of the beauty we see around us?”

All present followed the sweep of her arm to the open field of yellow and purple colored wild flowers and a bubbling creek behind the Finance Center winding its way through the post as clear as liquid glass. All around the multi colors of the open fields as far as we could see, ran a string of maple and pine trees towering over all and a clean blue sky with a brightly colored sun overhead.

No one said a word in reply. Nature had spoken for its Creator.

Prayer: Almighty Father, when I look up to the beauty and order of the universe and the world I see, let your majesty and love be revealed to all that will see and come to know it is You. Amen.
