What To Expect From Our Children

Parents, I hear you complaining about the way our children live,
And how they have so little time and love to give.
I hear you crying out for help to change their wicked and evil ways,
But we’re blaming everything and everyone, but the way they’re being raised.
“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”, are the words my grandmother would say
When parents complain about their children’s unGodly way.
Should we not expect our children to say as we say and do as we do?
Should you expect them to live any better than you?
What should we expect from our kids in the run of a day,
When our entire households are living in such a wicked way?
Mothers, should you expect your daughter to wait until she is wed,
When that’s not your husband lying next to you each night in your bed?
Should you expect her to be respected by all men?
Should she not go where you’ve gone and be where you’ve been?
Fathers, do you expect your sons to be responsible for the things they do,
When the promises you’ve made have never come to be true?
Do you expect him to be true to that special woman in his life,
When you’re not true to the one he calls his mother and you call your wife?
Just what should we expect from our children today
When we, as parents, are living outside the straight and narrow way?
We’re screaming, “Bring prayer back into our schools!”
When our homes are not being lead by the golden rules.
Honor thy father and thy mother and thy days will be long,
But there is no one to honor in an empty home.
Don’t spare the rod and spoil the child,
And let him run loose and wild.
Charity begins at home and so does the life a child lives.
He only knows to take what you take and give what you give.
Let’s pray for our children and teach them the right way
So that we can expect more and better of them each day.
I ask again, what should we expect of our children in the run of a day.
The answer: All that they see us do and all that they hear us say.
