I have done what I could do,
   leaving behind a bloody trail.
Now I sit and wait on You
   as the night grows dark and frail.
 
I spent the night guarding carrion,
   chasing vultures from my keep.
My efforts leave me very worn.
You find me fast asleep.
 
In the horror of the dark
   You repeat Your promise.
You proclaim what You impart
   as I lie in the dust.
 
My night has lasted half a year
   trying to protect what I have made.
When I am worn out from my fear
   it is then You speak as my Aid.
 
I will do as You command,
   working my hands to the bone.
Yet what I need comes from Your hand
   keeping the promise You swore alone.
 
Smoking furnace follows torch aflame
   passing between what I have killed.
You hold Your word above Your Name.
You have done as You have willed.
