Remembering Christmas

Oh how precious it is
To be home for the season
To give God our thanks
And were here for the reason
To show gratitude
And to spread Christmas cheer
And to be with old friends
And the ones we hold dear
We talk politics, thinning hair
And world views
And we hear all of our families
And friends latest news
But the one very thing
That makes our hearts run wild
Is that for one special day,
Once again, were a child
It’s then we remember
The Christmases past
And the good times we had
That forever will last
In our hearts as long as
The Good Lord gives us breath
We’ll cherish these memories
‘Till the day of our death
Like the cap gun we got,
Then we were a cowboy
Out there riding the range
With ole Trigger and Roy
Or the space suit we got,
That we outgrew too soon
Then we were Neil Armstrong
A walkin’ the moon
Or the toy plane we got,
Which wasn’t for sharin’
Then we were the Ace,
Shooting down the Red Baron
Or the guitar that we got,
Which was so out of tune
But then we were Elvis,
Making all the girls swoon
But we thought we were poor
And what a rough time we had
Boy, to be on my own
And grown up I’ll be glad
We have more in this fast world
Of push come to shove
But the gifts we got then,
They were given with love
Mom and Dad didn’t buy them
With their credit card
They scrimped and they saved
And they worked oh so hard
Keeping some back
Every week from their pay
To see that each one
Had a gift Christmas Day
Now we have grow up
And we’ve all left the nest
We’re not so poor now man,
We’ve all got the best
We all have I-Pods,
Flat screen TVs and such
But it just doesn’t seem
Christmas means quite as much
As it did years ago,
Isn’t life kind of funny
We’ve found to have joy,
Doesn’t take lots of money
