My Secret Place

So many good times I’ve had here
While serving Christ our Lord
Those great revival meetings
Where we’d hear God’s holy word
And how our hearts would shout for joy
To hear Amazing Grace
But none can match the times I’ve had
While in my secret place
It’s a place where I can go
To leave all earthly cares
And talk to our dear Savior
Who our great burden bears
I’ve been in time of sorrow
In sickness and disease
When I thought, “there’s no tomorrow”
“For my burdens there’s no ease”
When my heart was oh so heavy
And the tears ran down my face
I found sweet peace and comfort
Right there in my secret place
I’ve gone there when the doctor
Just took my hand and said
“We tried our best to save him
But your little one is dead”
How our hearts ache so within us
When these burdens we must face
But the Shepherd of my valley
Came down in my secret place
When our sons march off to battle
Into far off distant lands
And they go across the waters
And we know they’re in God’s hands
And then there comes the message
And death’s bitter cup we taste
The God of all our comfort
Is waiting in our secret place
Sometimes mine gets neglected
I don’t go there like I should
But it’s there the Lord would meet me
For He promised me he would
But I get so much like Martha
And of the wrong things make a fuss
And I let my place of solitude
Get covered up with dust
But God’s always there to take me back
With His amazing grace
And it’s there I find forgiveness
Praying in my secret place
So yours may be a closet
But mine’s an old oak tree
That’s where I go to talk to Him
And let Him talk to me
You can go into your bedroom
Really any where’s okay
But take time for the master
Just to steal away and pray
Don’t get caught up in carnal things
And in this world’s fast pace
For you’ll be a better Christian
When you visit your secret place.
