The average American owns a lot of stuff. On top of homes and vehicles, we also have furniture, jewelry, electronics, appliances, china, crystal, clothing, and countless other items to make day to day living easier. Sometimes we even pay for services to use our stuff, like telephone, cable/satellite, and Internet service. We even have stuff to help us take care of our stuff, such as washers and dryers to clean our clothes, dishwashers to clean our dishes, vacuum cleaners for our floors and lawnmowers to cut our grass. Most of us aren’t aware of how much we own unless we move.

We also have our prized possessions that we can’t live without. Whether it’s a treasured piece of jewelry, a cell phone you can’t function without, or your favorite chair, we all have those special things that mean the most to us.

It’s very important to realize that everything we own is a gift from God. He has trusted us to be good stewards of all things. If you take care of what you have, more will come to you. After all, how can you expect the Lord to give you more if you don’t appreciate what you have?

Remember that we don’t really own anything. God created everything and it all belongs to Him. He is gracious enough to provide what we have as blessings. You can’t take money or possessions with you when you die. In the end you will leave this world just as you came into it – with nothing but your soul. That’s what you really need to nurture.
