As a writer I feel power within me, not noticeable to those around me, when He gives me the skill to convey my thoughts and actions to my readers, yet feel good myself with the words I have written.
So many things go into our personal power. To some people, writers not excepted, courage brings out their power. Claudia Black has this to say about courage “Trust in yourself. Your perceptions are often more accurate than you are willing to believe.”
To evolve is when gradual changes come about you or your world. Power comes into play when we have the power to let that evolvement happen as slow or as quickly as it wants to, without trying to change the natural progression of evolvement. About that Eudora Welty says “The events in our lives happen in a sequence in time, but their in significance to ourselves, they find their own order – the continuous thread of revelation.”
For some people power means facing their fears. It is absolutely amazing how the fear of something unknown dissolves when the fear of the unknown becomes known. Gilda Radner says this “Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what is going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.”
Power comes when we are genuine. My readers know if they read some truth I have written that I truly mean to help them, in whatever way. My readers can feel my genuineness because I have the power to convince. Nikki Giovanni speaks to me with these words: “You must be unintimidated by your own thoughts.”
I feel power when I’m grateful. We are all grateful for different things and situations. I was grateful when my sister-in-law called to tell me she was going away for a few days. I was grateful she thought enough of me to tell me that so I wouldn’t worry about her when I couldn’t get her on the phone. She knows that worries me. Quoting Lydia Maria Child “Gratitude is the memory of the heart.”
Power is many things to many people. Some feel powerful when they are helping others, others feel power when they feel passionate about something or some person. In a nutshell power is the good God put in us when He made us. Using that skill wisely is the power within us.
