Solomon sat next to him. "Uh, we have. I mean, our people have been wandering for about 30 years, and we're just teenagers."
"Valid point. I am so bored. Want to play hide and seek?"
Solomon gave Joel a sideways glance. "Aren't we a little old for that?"
Joel tossed a piece of rock in the air. "Do you have any better ideas?"
Solomon sighed. "Fine. I'll play. I'll be the seeker first. Found you! You hid behind that plant over there. Game over."
"But you didn't even let me try to hide. And how did you know I was going to hide behind that plant?"
"Uh... take a look around, my friend. It's the only piece of vegetation in sight. We've wandered far enough away from the camp that we can barely see the tents, and we don't know what creatures lurk in the rocks, as we astutely learned last time. The only other option would be to burry yourself, risking suffocation."
Joel raised a finger in acknowledgement. "And once again, you make a valid point. So you don't want to play hide and seek. Fine. What do you want to do?"
Solomon shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. How about we..." He turned at the sound of a rock falling near him. "...RUN!" Solomon sprinted towards the camp.
Joel threw up his hands in confusion. "What?"
Solomon turned his head and panted. "Leopard. In the rocks. Last one... back to camp... is a dead... mole!"
Joel screamed and ran after his friend, not daring to look behind him. "Thanks for... letting me... stand there... while you ran,... instead of... grabbing my hand... and saying... 'I'll explain... later,'" he wheezed out between gasps.
The two made it back to camp and collapsed in a fit of breathless giggles.
Solomon regained his composure. "So, seriously, what do you want to do?"
"Have a heart attack?"
"I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I already had one."
Joel snickered. "Well, if nothing else, it broke up the monotony.
Solomon nodded. "Yes, but I'll take the monotony over being eaten by a leopard, thank you very much."
"Dully noted."
Solomon cocked his head, a look of concentration on his face.
Joel raised his eyebrows. "What are you thinking about?"
"Do you realized that, according to my calculations, we only have approximately nine years, 3 months, 2 weeks, and 5.5 days until this should be over? Give or take a day, of course. By the time we're thirty, this should all be a memory."
Joel rolled his eyes. "Yeah, if we don't get eaten by a leopard first. I know there's going to be and end, but for now, this still seems endless."
Solomon nodded his head in agreement. "You've got that right. So, what do you want to do tomorrow? I mean, besides avoid getting eaten by a leopard?"
Joel shrugged his shoulders. "The same thing we do every day, Solomon..."
Solomon joined his friend, helping him finish the sentence. "...hope that big ol' cloud finally moves again."

Author's Note:
Per Encyclopedia Britannica, leopards, though rare, (and moles) did live in the Sinai Peninsula region, the area thought to be where the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. The landscape also featured rock formations.
