A disobedient nation
Captive and made slaves,
But God called Nehemiah
And a mission to him gave.
Cupbearer to the Persian king,
He felt God's certain call,
Returning to Jerusalem
Rebuilding all its walls.
Defying opposition
Each family chose a phase,
Completion of the wall fulfilled
In fifty-two rough days.
They recognized God's faithfulness
And in repentance sought
The God from whom they'd strayed away
And asked God's law be taught.
The scrolls were opened, Ezra read,
And all the able listened,
They heard the Law of Moses shared
And what God had commissioned.
The people's hearts were touched that day,
Souls freed that once were bound,
They bowed and worshiped God of all
With faces to the ground.
Although no radios back then,
No papers or TVs,
Still through the media of scrolls
God's truth brought bended knees.
It is not ours to question
The methods He may use,
For God can touch the hearts of men
And men He still pursues.
Nehemiah 8:1-9
