With tears of grief or joy in remembrance?
We may have ice cream, chocolate or cake
Sharing our time with others around us.
But what is time and why is it measured
In seconds, days, weeks, months and years?
Why is it more my enemy than friend
It’s precious, but rarely wipes away my tears
But that is not the role time plays
It is reserved for the One who knew me
Inside my mother’s womb--before my day.
He is the one who shapes eternity
He is the One who knew I was in sin,
Since the day I was born, I struggled within.
But what is sin, that it separates people
From a loving God who knows us so well
Its hurtful lies that at pull at the soul
Divided humankind from time we fell.
But God had a plan for a second birthday
To celebrate the day we let Christ come in
Through the open door of our hearts
That badly needed to be cleansed from sin.
With the second birth comes a new family
Of brothers and sisters in the Lord.
Christians celebrate a common cause
And strive to live and work in one accord.
For the time left on earth is still unknown,
But each birthday in the Lord is a milestone.
