I have 55 years of history running through my Facebook profile. I do not cruise this page looking for political intrigue, disagreements or arguments. I do not look for drama or gory news stories. I long for a connection that takes me back in time. A bond carrying an illusion back to when things were simple. An era beginning with innocence.
To my cousins in the Schneider family, I say this. You watched over me being one of the youngest of 50 cousins. You taught me to ice skate on a Wisconsin pond when these old bones did not mind the cold so much. You told me every Sunday I was in the newspaper when they published the old Nancy cartoon. You wrapped me in bandages practicing your nursing skills. You taught me to fish, played tag and hide and seek, rescued me when I got stuck on the playground equipment and made me feel loved. You helped form my character and taught me the basics of love. You gave me the deep sense of family along with my grandparents, parents, numerous aunts and uncles. Thank you.
To my frends representing the generation of my youth. I would not have survived without you. I was bullied and tormented; treated cruelly. You were there. You protected and loved me. You gave me a deep sense of acceptance. You sustained me with the deep need for worth. Bless you.
To the friends of the wildness of my youth. I was still teased unmercifully. You came alongside me when we relocated to a new city. You stood beside me in the chaotic, post Woodstock decade of the 70s. We went through joy and we went through trials in this coming of age, self-awareness period. We lost many near and dear. Those of us that came through it have a deeper awareness of God and exbibit a greater strength. I am alive with your help.
To those I have known only since adulthood. You have helped me to learn and grow. You have held my hand, encouraged me to hold my head up and have taught me well when I am seeking spiritual answers. You have graced me with your kindness and warmed my heart with your smiles. You have not brought the gavel down on my head in judgment. I am grateful.
To my children who God formed in my womb. Sometimes it is not the easiest to be a mother. I have never know the full suffering of another until my kids. Many times I have repeated the mantra, "Children are a blessing from God." You love me unconditionally as well. You are growing like I did at your age. It is a comfort to know you will be there in my old age. May God protect you.
To my three sisters I have yet to meet. We all were sent to various parts of the country at our birth. Some to family; some adopted. Four of us have found each other and our bonds of sisterhood are strong. Based on blood and a longing for what was taken from us, we love. I feel you.
The basics of life are not material. It is not based on our obsession with technology. It does not bear fruit airing our grievances for the whole world to see.
It is surrounded by acceptance amd worth. The most important quality is love. God is love and when He spoke the world into motion, it was based on this alone.
Let's get back to our original roots.
Love and be loved!
