“Lord, please help me,” I said, now beginning to realize Who could help me the most. Why do people like Robert (that's my boss) seem to be in charge. I just can't handle this. Maybe I should just quit. I do not know what to do.
20 minutes left. Ugh, I've driven 10 minutes already! I wish I could buy some time. I guess I shouldn't run away. I AM NO COWARD. Robert can't eat me. He may fire me, but he can't eat me.
17 minutes ... “Oh Lord, please show me the best way to get through this,” I said in a somewhat shaky voice. “I don't know how I'm gonna provide for Lori and the kids if this job doesn't come through for me. Please find a way out or a way through, Lord, but let me not give up,” I prayed now wishing that I could close my eyes in reverence.
15 minutes .... I feel much better now about everything. It's amazing what talking to the Lord can do. Sure, Robert didn't get zapped off the planet, but I know the God whom I serve is way bigger than that guy, better yet, He is so great He has already overcome the world! With the Lord's help I AM GONNA GET THROUGH THIS.
10 minutes ... I am still gonna have to talk to him. I still have to try to please Robert. I CAN'T PLEASE ROBERT! Maybe I'm not up to this after all. What was I thinking? I can't go through with this.
7 minutes ... Wait a second! I am not going to quit. What was that Bible verse again? Oh right, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Yes, take a deep breath and leave the rest to the Lord. THE LORD IS HERE FOR ME!
5 minutes ... Who would park on the shoulder like that? Oh, someone must be having car trouble. A Lexus? Hey that kind of looks like... No, it can't be... He should be at work already.
“Hey Robert! Are you okay?” I said trying hard to sound friendly. My boss was a little shocked at who had stopped. The responses he uttered were a lot of mumbles and nods of shock and awe so the one sided conversation went as follows:
“A double tire blowout?...
How long have you been sitting there?...
It's 7:00. Don't you head in to work around 6:00?...
Oh, I thought you had someone to call...
Hop in. You look like you need a coffee...
Yeah, just move the paperwork, I haven't been organized lately...”
3 minutes ... After Rob (he told me just to call him Rob, I know weird right?), had his coffee the conversation went a little more two sided. He still held a sense of shock so his words didn't sound as educated (or arrogant) as usual.
“Church? Oh yeah I go to church. Every Sunday if fact...
You used to go to church? Hmm... never heard of that one...
Oh you think that is how to get to Heaven? What church did you say you went to
again...
Oh right. I actually have heard of that one. No, my church never played softball with them...
I believe, but more importantly, the Bible says that admitting you are a sinner, believing in Jesus Christ as Redeemer, and repenting of your sins to Him will give you eternal life in Heaven...
Yes, we learned that in church, but really it's from the Bible...
You don't have a Bible? Oh, you can borrow mine...
Well Robert...-er- Rob here we are. I'll drop you off here and then go park in the parking garage.
Sure, we can do lunch. Bye...
I have arrived and the battle was won before I stepped a foot on the premises. "Thank you Lord... Thank you.”
