It’s a peaceful color. The Lord knew that as we rush around doing our daily errands we would need a little view of peace. We just need to take a moment to peek at the sky in our busy days and know that He gave us a gift of calm.
The water is made for our relaxing days when work and errands are put aside. We float and rock on the blue water and it soothes our troubles. There are fish to catch and sun to warm and tan us. The cool water is wonderful to be submersed in when we swim. What could be more of an escape from daily toil?
God’s gift to us at creation was this world, the land, the sea, its animals and its people – all of us wrapped up in a blue sky. The wrapping paper on a gift is important. It shows the personality of the giver and the care with which He gives the gift. So is the gift important – especially fragile and precious are the people who all need tender care and grace from us. We were placed carefully in a niche on this earth to give love to people who are hurting or who are heading in the wrong direction in life. It’s a joy to receive the responsibility.
But the God who wrapped the earth for us and His love for us shown in the gift is what should be given our attention. He wrote a book for us and placed it on this blue-wrapped earth. In this book is written His Love on every page…from the Mercy Seat Moses was so near each day to the cross which is our Mercy Seat in the present to the Judgment Seat in Heaven from which His mercy will flow to those who know Him. This God longs to be known. To pay attention to our earth and its animals is honorable. But to be a friend of God who gave them is to know our Creator. We have the chance to pour out our hearts before Him which gives Him the chance to comfort and love and cheer us.
So when we have a glimpse of the sky or a day on the water it’s just wrapping paper. There’s so much depth in the Giver, deeper than the ocean, higher than the sky. Psalm 73:25 (Amplified) Whom have I in heaven but You? And I have no delight or desire on earth besides You.
