“Hello everyone. I'm Monica Davis and welcome to Good Morning Canada. Today I have Jennifer Masimini, Canadian born American fitness champion who will be competing in the World Championship Fitness Competition in Toronto this week.” Turning to Jennifer, “So Jennifer, what's it like competing in an international fitness event, right here in Toronto where you were born?”
“It's great,” said Jennifer. “I get to see Toronto again, which I love. I also get to visit cousins who live in Southern Quebec.”
“So you were born in Canada but your family moved to the US,” said Monica. “Do you have dual citizenship?”
“Yes, I do,” said Jennifer. “It makes life very easy when traveling for work or visiting relatives who are in two countries.”
“Have you ever thought about moving back to Canada?” said Monica.
“I have,” said Jennifer. “My fiancé and I like the universities in Ontario and Quebec. He could teach computer science and I could be a strength coach. So yeah, we've thought about it.”
“Anything in particular attract you back to Toronto?” asked Monica.
“Yes,” said Jennifer. “I am fascinated by the PATH every time I come here. The idea that there is an underground mall below the financial district is really cool. It's not just a few gift shops in a subway station. It's a whole shopping center and transit hub. I also love visiting Little Italy. My family's Italian, so we visited the area a lot when I was a little girl.”
“What differences strike you the most between Americans and Canadians?” asked Monica.
“Canadians are not obsessed with guns like so many Americans,” said Jennifer. “Most Americans only know one language. A lot of Americans are strangely imperialistic capitalists. It's one thing to believe capitalism is a nice economic framework, its another thing to use corporations to dominate and exploit other people. Even the US health care system is dominated by corporations that try to squeeze as much out of people as they can. I really like Canada's universal health care system. In the US there are millions of poor people without access to health care.”
“Isn't that one of the things you're trying to promote back in your home state of California?” said Monica.
“Yes, it is. Since California has a huge higher educational system, the largest in the US, I think it's the best system to start providing affordable health care to everyone in the system: students, faculty, and staff regardless of their economic background or pay grade,” said Jennifer.
“So in the US you're promoting a health care system similar to Canada's. But while you're here in Canada for this competition you're promoting a fitness lifestyle that you've helped make more popular in the Western US,” said Monica.
“Yes, I do believe that a healthy food plan and exercise enhances everything in life,” said Jennifer.
“Even your love life?” asked Monica.
“Yes, even my love life. My fiancé is a software engineer who lifts weights and eats well,” said Jennifer. “We actually met at a gym and hit it off right away.”
“Now, some men are a little put off by your size and strength,” said Monica.
“Not my Danny, he loves how big and strong I am,” said Jennifer.
“How tall are you?” asked Monica.
“I'm 5'11” and he's 5'9”,” said Jennifer.
“And are you physically stronger than he is?” asked Monica.
“He has a well developed, strong physique but my hips are wider and my legs are stronger,” said Jennifer. “But since we work out together sometimes, I know he does have as much stamina as I do, which means our honeymoon will be very fun.” Jennifer flashed a mischievous smile at one of the cameras.
“So you haven't done it yet?” asked Monica.
“No, we're waiting to settle down into a long term loving relationship before having sex,” said Jennifer. “We've both seen too many broken relationships and heart ache in the lives of people around us.”
“Wow, that's a refreshingly nice view in this day and age,” said Monica. Then turning to the main camera, “When we come back from our commercial break we'll learn a little more about Jennifer's relationship with Danny.”
