“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts” Romans 6:12
We have been advised over and over that regardless of our desire, we still have sin in our lives and we will never be perfect. That situation is only partly true. We are in the flesh while here on earth. We are still waylaid by temptations and the snares of the devil. But whether we allow these temptations and snares to overcome us and take reign over our mortal bodies is completely dependant upon how much control we allow the Holy Spirit to have in our lives.
If we allow temptations to come to fruition, then sin will be our master. If we allow the devil to knock us off our feet, then sin will become our lord. But if we allow the Spirit to direct our lives, if we come to Him in earnest supplication each time we are tempted by the wiles of the world, then the victory belongs to the Lord and that reveals one day more that sin has not reigned over us.
Our lives are directly determined by our choice of control. We can choose to give in to temptation or we can, at that moment of temptation, call out for the Lord for assistance and power. We are never without a chance for righteousness as Christians. But where we place our control is our choice. Perfection may not be possible in this existence, but continuing and growing control by the Holy Spirit is not only possible but available to anyone who calls himself a child of God.

Application: Who are you allowing to control your life’s actions? Do you blame the sin when you should rightly be blaming your choice?
