Travel back to a place in your childhood. Who were your friends? The ones that made you laugh so hard you couldn’t talk while you rode your bike down a steep hill without brakes. Remember the sleepovers that lasted into the wee hours of the morning. Focus on the moment those glowing candles were blown out off of just one birthday cake.
Move forward to a period when you shyly glanced at the boy or girl that first made you blush. Passing notes in class, hoping that the teacher would not notice. Recollect the freshman reception, prom and senior banquet that required dates and formal wear that allowed us to pretend we were adults attending the local ball.
Take the stroll down that aisle when you promised to love, cherish and honor forever through sickness and in health. Then, child 1, 2, 3, 4 or more arrived as you set up your home and lived the American dream. Watching the little ones grow and develop into mature adults that honor our Lord was your daily goal.
Mirrors reveal the gray hair as you entered the golden years. Grandchildren bounced on your knee and begged for one more story. Allowing an extra book was acceptable because it wasn’t your responsibility to discipline. “Spoil them; then, return them”, became your motto. Time to garden, read and organize all those pictures into a photo album now fit into your schedule.
“Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame…the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,” (Romans 10:12, The NIV Study Bible). What an amazing promise He has made to all who know Him. In times of stress and despair one may forget all the blessing that have been bestowed upon him in the past or even recognize their current blessings. Focusing on His promise of future blessings to come is blurred by pain. Therefore, cling to our Lord and open His book, for the words: bless, blessing, blessed appears at least over 50 times.
Ultimately, once you close those beautiful eyes that gave you many sights to see throughout your life, they will open and gaze upon His Light. He is there waiting for you. What a sight to see!
