TITLE: You Make Me Proud To Be A Christian

This rap is more on the lines of something you might hear from P.O.D. Straight rapping for the vocals, with some guitars and scratching in the background. Please excuse my use of "ebonics." I had to write it like it sounds in person to show love to my roots in Detroit, over by six mile.
There’s nothing sweeter than a disciple spittin’ truth into the mic!
And you know he’s a true disciple when he’s sayin’ things like:
“Hey, this is me. I ain’t perfect. But I’m much happier now.
I got new joy in my life! You can have it too! And I’mona’ show you how!

And he’s drivin’ the truth to ‘em in a bold, unique style
They maybe never heard before, or just ain’t heard in a while.
And everything that he’s got to say is so biblically-correct
That whether believer or not, everyone’s givin’ him respect
(like)
“This dude really knows somethin’ about he book he’s quoting me
And his tongue really ain’t that smooth, but I believe that he believes!”
And somebody way in the back is feeling a New Presence within
And she’s ready to lay up all of her life’s sins onto Him!

AMEN! Lord, I know one message don’t reach ‘em all
At the same pace, the same strength, the same wavelength at all!
But it’s disciples like THIS that put emphaSIS in the right place.
By telling the world Law is dead, and it’s been replaced by Your Grace!

YEAH… (You help me do what I do and…)
You make me proud to be a Christian!
(Show me where I need to grow too and…)
You make me proud to be a Christian!
MAN… (You give me hunger for the fruit and…)
You make me proud to be a Christian!
(I got much Christ-love for you and...)
You make me PROUD TO BE A CHRISTIAN!

I’m so inspired! This old dude’s been retired for a while.
Body’s slowed-down now, but couldn’t tell it from his smile!
He says, “These are the good years, boy! This ain’t even the start!”
Numbers slipin’ his mind, bible verses still springin’ from his heart!

And he floods the room with light every time that he walks inside.
And people who weren’t ready pickin’ 'emselves off the ground like:
“How’s this dude still got so much enthusiasm for life?
Is this one of the benefits of a life lived with Christ?”

And sixteen-year-old girls givin’ him hugs without fear
Ain’t no smug, perverted smile hiding under his beard.
He’s protective of every one of 'em like his own daughter!
Tryin’ to teach ‘em common sense and everything else he taught her!

He's using his spare time to head-up the "college and career" bunch
AND YOU KNOW it ain’t a bible study without some bagels for lunch!
And he’s so humble about his walk that he’s challenged to answer me
When I tell him, “Brother, you everything that I am HOPING to be!” (WHAT!)

MAN… (You help me do what I do and…)
You make me proud to be a Christian!
(Show me where I need to grow too and…)
You make me proud to be a Christian!
MAN… (You give me hunger for the fruit and…)
You make me proud to be a Christian!
(I got much Christ-love for you and...)
You make me PROUD TO BE A CHRISTIAN!

He used to be a... traveling pastor till he fell into the drugs
Took his eyes offa’ Christ and got his life messed-up.
Only a few short months into abusin’ the prescription
Got caught in a drug deal that wound up in a conviction.

“Or maybe two,” he thought as he sat there in prison.
“Cuz my life isn’t ANYthing like I had envisioned!”
It was the first real TEST he’d ever had and he failed.
Now the miracle of “a sinner saved by grace” was unveiled!

It was like a missing piece of his soul had finally clicked
And he studied the whole puzzle now that all the pieces fit.
So he cracked his bible open, read it time and a gain
Formed a relationship with CHRIST during his days in the pen.

He got out, built a business, and then founded a jail
Specifically for juveniles and young-adult males.
And now he’s reaching a population nobody else would TOUCH
Sayin’ “Jesus still loves you, Son. And He’s NOT givin’ up!”

And it... might just be me, but I really believe
That every one of these men has got somethin’ I need!
And it’s so amazing to think that My God really could
Take a situation so evil and turn it around for good!

So maybe I can stop hiding behind my excuse
That I’ve seen too much dysfunction to be of any use!
Maybe I need to realize that my passion for words
Was God-given and show gratitude by makin’ 'em heard!

And maybe I’ve been through a certain set of tests
And I’ve got a specific attitude that suits me the best.
And I’ll never stop growing, but it also COULD BE
That the witness I AM is the one that someone NEEDS!

To FOUR CORNERS the Word of the gospel will spread!
And I know it’s a distance no one man can tread.
So by... writing this song I’m just... givin’ a nod
To those who... BLOWIN’ my MIND in they walk with God!
