The goal would be to highlight and bold all the letter "S" words to help child recognize the letter. Same goal would be with my other story "Lukie the Lizard".. Age would be primarly pre-school
Sammie the Sneaky Slow Snail
A lesson on obedience while learning letter recognition. Letter S
By Darlene Lopez
There once was a small slithery slimy sneaky snail named Sammie. Who lived near the south end of sunny Ville. Now little Sammie was very sneaky and very s- -l- o w, the slowest and sneakiest in his SnailShell family., probably the slowest and sneakiest in Sunny Ville. Everything Sammie did was slow and sneaky. When he would eat his snail snacks he would eat them very s-l-o-w-l-y and always tried to sneak an extra snack. When it was time to take a bath, he often would sneak away, so he wouldn’t have to take one, but once he was in, he was so slow at wanting to get out. He wasn’t always trying to be slow but after all he was a snail and being slow was just his nature, but being sneaky, well that was something he had mastered. He especially was slow at coming inside from playing outside in mothers garden. Who could blame him. After all, mothers garden was the most super out of all the Sunny Ville snails.
Whenever Sammie would play out in his Mothers beautiful garden, he couldn’t help but want to slither up and slide down all the colorful flowers. But whenever he tried to slither up it would take an awful long time. It was always worth it because once he reached the top he then could slide down . There were Yellow Daises, Pink Pansies, Orange Mums, and the Red Roses, well, they were his favorite. Sammie would often get himself stuck in the rose petals while trying to smell them.
Sammie loved to do sneaky tricks in the garden . He would often squirm his way down the soft soil and make holes to hide in. Whenever Sammie’s mommy would call him to come in for Supper and to get ready for bed he would sneak down into the hole he made and smile. Mother would always have to go and squirt him out with the water hose, But he always seemed to sneak back down the hole. Boy was Sammie Sneaky! Sammie’s mother had just about had enough of Sammie’s sneaky slow ways.
She wondered how she could get Sammie in to eat his leaf soup and into bed quickly. Mother thought and thought Hmmmmm, she wondered. Ahh haa I got it. So in the morning while Sammie was slithering up the Pink Pansies Mother went out and super glued all the holes shut with super sap from the family favorite tree. Awee Yes, Mother thought this should do it. That evening the sun began to set and after Mother prepared the leaf soup she shouted for Sammie. Sammie, she said ,time for Supper.
Well, Sammie was no fool. After realizing his holes were shut, he became sneakier and slower than before. This time he managed to sneak on over to the neighbors house and he sat right on top of the swing set. It was the slowest and perhaps one of the most difficult journey’s he’s ever experienced. It took well over six hours for him to get to where he was at, however he knew that his Mother wouldn’t be able to find him way up there. I am the slyest and slickest Snail ever. He thought to himself. Mean while, Mother was seriously scared she didn’t understand where Sammie could be, after all she had sealed up all his holes in the soil and she shouted loud enough for him to hear her. But Like all Mothers of sneaky slow snails she knew exactly where Sammie was at and what he was up to. Sammie didn’t realize that he had left a slimy trail leading up to where he was hiding.
This time Mother was not going to look for Sammie instead she said, Well I cant seem to find Sammie and I’ve shouted for him sixteen times , now Mother knew all along where he was hiding, I guess small, slithery, sneaky Sammie doesn’t want any of my delicious leaf soup and I guess Sammie will have to miss out on his sesame seed bath and his favorite Snail Ville story. I sure hope Sammie sleeps soundly tonight outside. Mother waited and waited and waited and still no sign of Sammie. She shouted one last time for Sammie, meanwhile Sammie was giggling with a big smirk on his face up on top of the swing set. So Mother went inside and closed the door behind her.
Sammie was so scared and he was so sorry that he was ever so sneaky, but he knew that it would take at least six hours to slither and slide down the swing set. He was just to slow of a snail. He thought about screaming for help, but he knew no one would be able to see or hear him from up there so all he could do was wait until morning. As he sat there on top of the swing he was sad and he thought about all the wonderful things he loved about bedtime. He loved mothers leaf soup, and missed his favorite Snail Ville bedtime story, that father would read to him. He especially missed snuggling under his silky sheets.
That night Sammie didn’t get much sleep. As soon as Sammie could see the sun rising he slowly untucked his head from his shell. He began his journey one slither and slide at a time. Finally he made it. He was back in his own garden and couldn’t be more happy.
That evening when Mother shouted for Sammie to come in for Supper and to get ready for bed, Sammie was tempted to be sneaky again, but he then remembered all the scary sounds he heard the night before on top of the swing set . So he hurried inside and to his surprise he was not as slow as he thought he was. That day Sammie learned a very important lesson. He learned that it is good to obey quickly and it is not good to be sneaky. God tells children to obey their parents and if they obey there parents God promises to Bless them. Every day you chose between right and wrong. You can learn from Sammie that it is good to obey because when we obey we are blessed . But, when we disobey it makes our hearts sad. What will you chose to do today?
