TRUST JESUS TODAY
The skit is based on the story of the woman w/an issue of blood. Character ONE is the biblical character and should be dressed in some kind of "robe." TWO is a teen or woman from today. The women should stand on opposite sides of the performance space. They speak to the audience, not to each other. We used this skit at our church as an opener to a sermon about how Jesus can transform lives today.
(biblical text Matthew 9:20-22)
One: For twelve years I lived alone, apart from my family.
Two: I was alone, on the streets. Outcast from my family.
ONE: Outcast. Unclean. I had spent everything I had, everything I could beg from my husband, on doctors. No one could cure me.
TWO: I had spent everything I had, everything my parents had, on drugs.
Nothing could take away the pain.
I was tired.
I was sick.
ONE: I was alone.
TWO: I was alone.
ONE: Then I heard about a man. A prophet, a healer. Miracles.
TWO: Then someone came to the underpass where I slept with the other addicts. They told me about Jesus, they said he could help me.
ONE: I couldn’t ask him to touch me. He was holy. I was unclean. No
one had touched me in twelve years.
TWO: I said “I can’t go to church, I’m not clean.”
ONE: But I knew...I had faith...if I could just touch the hem of his
robe. He could heal me!
TWO: But I went. I thought, maybe if I could just stand in the
back of the church, maybe this Jesus would at least strike me dead. End my pain.
ONE: I waited until a huge crowd had gathered and then I forced
my way up to him.
TWO: They talked about forgiveness. They sang a song about healing.
ONE: I pretended to trip and then reached out to touch the
hem of his robe. The crowd stepped over me. They didn’t
even see me there.
TWO: I cried out to Jesus in my head, “Is it too late? Can you forgive
me? Can you heal my pain?”
ONE: But Jesus stopped among the crowd. He turned and looked
right at me
TWO: For a moment there was silence
ONE: “Take heart daughter” Daughter? No one had called me daughter, or mother or wife in so long. “Your faith has made you well!”
TWO: Then I heard a voice, “My precious daughter, I can forgive you. I will.”
ONE: And I felt it, even at that moment
TWO: And I knew right then
TOGETHER: I was whole
ONE: Because he called me
TOGETHER: Because he loved me.
