How many of you have heard the song “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercyme? The first time I heard it, it really moved me. I often think of what it will be like to walk beside Jesus and talk with Him. I think of Him talking to me the way He talked to Martha.
To actually see the very one who gave His life for me, for the whole world. To see His face and look into His eyes and know that this was the man who carried His own cross, who endured the beatings, shed all that blood and not once gave in and said “No more, I can not take this pain.” Jesus knew He was going to die and He knew the reason why. Even on the cross He asked God to forgive the ones that were killing Him. After everything He had been through He was still thinking of others.
I think about how I will feel when I do see Jesus. Like the song says, “will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe of you be still.” The first thing I want to do when I meet Jesus is to thank Him for giving His life for me and I will then drop to my knees. Then again I might not be able to say one word. I can see myself standing there, thinking He knows everything about me, since the day I was born. He’s the only one who has truly known my heart.
There will come a day when I do not have to imagine anymore. When I will be able to see the one I have been praying to all of my Christian life. The one who, even though I had never met in person, I put my trust in. Who I believed would protect and heal my family and friends. Even the ones who disliked me.
Until the day comes that I do not have to paint pictures in my mind of walking and talking with my Lord and Savior in person, I will continue to look through the eyes of my faith. To see and experience His Glory in all things of life. Waiting and wondering what that day will be like when I am standing in His presence. Until then I can only imagine.
