The OTHER

I can remember the day, as if it were yesterday. It was a Saturday morning, opening day of deer season in 1996.
Mike and I went to our stands really, really, early, like before daylight. Mike stayed with me until I felt comfortable. Sitting in the dark is not one of my favorite things to do. Even though I am up in a tree stand, this is no solace to me. I was sitting there with my eyes closed, pretending that it was daylight. I heard this soft voice speak to me, Libby open your eyes and really see. I realize you are in the dark of the moment now. It is time for you to see somethingís and some people for who they really are.
This was the beginning of my journaling from a deer stand. That day the Lord gave me a poem, which I had to remember, until I got back to the camp. I had no pen or paper with me. The Other is itís name.
One sits in the dark waiting with no fear;
The other stays in the dark with no idea.
One sits and waits for Godís creation;
The other waits for he knows not.
One waits in great anticipation of this day;
The other waits to spoil everyoneís day.
One praises God for the beautiful sunrises;
The other never gives the sunrise a second thought.
One looks at the open trail and knows that his reward is at the other end.
The other looks at the trail and can not see beyond himself.
One may not get his game, OH! But what he has already gained.
The other is so full of hate and anger, always looking for others to blame.
He will never look for the creator; his life will always be the same.
