"A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit ". (Proverbs 15:13)
The heart, in the Scripture, is a telltale place. Out of the heart comes the speech of the mouth, and out of the heart comes the look on your face. We are all familiar with this phenomenon. We can often tell something about the mind and attitude of someone by the look on their face. If they look cheerful, we know they are happy, and if they look sad we assume they are troubled in their heart. In fact "heartache" is a term we use to describe the feeling of someone who is going through troubles. It is good that the Lord has given us these signs as we deal with people. He has told us that we should weep with those who weep, and that we should rejoice with those who rejoice. In other words we should be sympathetic to those around us. A loud, boisterous greeting to a person with a crushed spirit is like a curse. Hopefully we will have many days with a happy heart, and that it will show on our face.
