"A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies." (Proverbs 14:5)
The world needs people who will tell the truth. Telling a lie is a much more serious offense than we generally appreciate. Jesus calls the Devil, the "father of all lies", which is a fact. So much of the Devil's work is accomplished through deception, through lies. In our times lying is excused because "everybody does it". It is a tool of governments, it is excused as necessary for our national defense, yet it is all a work of the Devil. If you have ever been in a trial in a courtroom here in our country, and have heard a witness pour out lies, you know the damage such a person can do. They war against truth, and truth is necessary for our lives. Jesus says, "I am the truth". Every lie is an attack on Jesus; every truthful witness is an attack on the Devil. Don't buy the idea that lies are harmless. They aren't. Like the works of their father, the Devil, all lies are designed to "kill, steal and destroy". That may not be your conscience intent when you tell a "little lie", but that is the real effect. Be a faithful witness, tell the truth.
