My sin was e'er before my eyes.
In fear and shame I could not rise
Above the guilt and Satan's lies...
"For you there is no mercy."
For I once walked in faith and grace,
But stumbled in life's painful race,
And sin now hides my Savior's face
And mocks, "Where is His mercy?"
Tho' faint of heart and sick of mind
This truth prevailed... My God is kind.
I shall repent! Perhaps I'll find
His love, His grace, His mercy...
For if, when I was Jesus' foe,
He washed my sin as white as snow,
Shall He not on His child bestow
A crown of tender mercies?
I knelt and prayed as ne'er before.
I stormed the gates on golden shores!
And who should open Heaven's door?
... But Jesus, Prince of Mercy!
O what joy forgiveness brings!
My soul is free to laugh, to sing!
Restored by my own God and King
Enthroned on Praise and Mercy!
"For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son,
how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!"
