Believest Thou in Me

I knelt to pray one still, dark night
But prayer eluded me,
For shadows fell like question marks...
Doubt sneered and taunted me.

My tattered faith lay at my feet,
It had no strength at all.
Yes, doubt had reared its ugly head
With questions great and small...

Why some are "called and chosen"
From within their mothers' wombs,
While other hearts are hardened,
By our God condemned and doomed.

Yes, some are chosen by God's grace
To dwell in love and joy.
They're sealed and kept by His design,
Destined for His glory!

Are others chosen by God's wrath
To be cast out, condemned?
Are we mere puppets on a string
Controlled and moved by Him?

Some children come into this world,
Abundance shall be theirs.
Food and shelter, love and health...
They'll have no woes, no cares.

But some are born to poverty
With hopeless miseries.
Their lives are brief; their mothers weep.
Where is God's love for these?

How evil prospers in this life
With riches, power and fame!
No so the righteous! Their reward?
To face the martyr's flame!

Questions with no answers...
How they danced before my mind!
Their voices blended now as one...
Is thy Father good and kind?

My God, my God, forsake me not!
Hide not thy face from me.
Cast out this doubt and still its voice
That I might hear from Thee.

"I am the Lord, the great I Am.
I speak! Worlds come to be.
I rule in wisdom, love and might...
Who art thou to question me?

"My thoughts are higher than thy thoughts,
My ways more grand than yours.
Some truths are clearly seen and known,
Some stay behind closed doors.

"Some questions asked by seeking hearts
Remain a mystery.
Their answers lie beyond earth's realm...
Locked in Eternity.

"But know, O restless child of Mine,
'Tis not thy Father's sovereign will
For any man to die condemned.
The proof is Calvary's hill!

"Let the voice of doubt be stilled
Beneath its crimson tide.
'Tis safe to trust the Holy One
Who lived, Who loved, Who died!

"Although some questions asked by man
Remain a mystery...
Tho' answers lie beyond earth's realm...
Believest thou in Me!
Yea, believest thou in Me!

The secret things belong unto the Lord our God:
but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever...
Deuteronomy 29:29

""But know, O restless child of Mine, 'Tis not thy Father's sovereign will For any man to die condemned. The proof is Calvary's hill!" --- Linda, this is great writing. It ends so well. And as you pointed out, it is not our Father's will that any of us should die condemned. We will be condemned by our own choosing. I was thinking about the children, some of which are born to rich parents, while others are born to poor. We must remember the sun shines on the rich and poor alike. The rich and poor alike are able to have and raise chidren. But Jesus loves all the little children. Thanks for sharing. Thomas
