”In Search of God” [email protected]
Once upon a time or so the story goes, a young man was moved from the words of a neighborhood preacher and felt the call to find God. So he set off from church to church, town to town in search of God.
His travels took him around the world. He saw new sights, found new ideas, and witnessed man’s faith in unknown gods where ever he went. However, when he asked, “Where is God?” The reply was always, he is there, or can be found here. But never did anyone say, God is here.
One day coming upon a small village in a far country, the young man asked a villager. “Do you know where God is?”
“No, but I know a man who does. He sits on this mountain near a small pool of water and it is said that he knows where God lives.” Came the reply from the villager.
Climbing quickly knowing that his search was at an end, the young man scrambled up the mountain. Spying an old and wrinkled fellow, the young man bowed in humble submission and asked. “Do you know where God is?”
Without hesitating, the old man pointed to the pond and said, “He is within the pool of water. Look into the pond and you will find him.”
The young man approached the pool and with great respect knelt down and began to peer into it. Suddenly, the old man grabbed him by the head and forced him under the water. There he struggled until his last breath began to burn in his lungs and he could not stand it any longer fearing he would faint and die. Then the old man loosed him before the final moment and he gasped for air.
“When you truly seek the Lord as much as you longed for that last breath, you will find him.” The old man said walking away.
Dismayed and dishearten, the young man returned home. Unable to satisfy his desire to find the Lord God, he retuned to his everyday living. Until one day the urge became so great, the desire so heavy, and the need so impossible to overcome, that the young man knelt down in prayer. There he found the Lord.
COMMON SENSE SAYS: The longest journey that a person has to make in search of the Lord is from standing up to kneeling down.
