The Grace Of God
By
Calvin J Moss
Genesis 6:5-8: and God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and it repented the Lord that he made man on the earth and it grieved him at his heart, and the Lord said I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
I want to talk about the grace of God. The Eerdmans Bible Dictionary says grace is God`s unmerited favor towards humanity and especially his people realized through the covenant and fulfilled through Jesus Christ. Grace is a spiritual blessing. If it had not been for the grace of God none of us would be here.
In Genesis 6 we see that God wanted to destroy man because his heart was continuously evil. It repented the Lord that he made man. The children of Israel went whoring after other gods but God grace allowed them a chance to repent. Then after they repented, they went whoring again after false gods. Yet the grace of the Lord gave them another chance to repent however their sin did not go unpunished.
In the modern world of today, we see that wickedness has increased dramatically. Because of this God`s grace abounds even more because we are under a new covenant. St. John 1:17 says for the law was given to Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Grace is not something that can be earned or traded for. The bible says for by grace are ye saved. We do not have anything to do with God`s unmerited favor. It is about Jesus Christ and is an act of God`s love towards us. We continue to receive chance after chance. No matter how many times we fell short, the grace of God has kept us.
Our Father`s grace is mind blowing and beyond our comprehension. One reason I believe that God`s grace is so abundant is because he is not willing that man perish but have eternal life. Many of us had near death experiences but the grace of God spared our lives. God did not have to keep us. We must not take God`s grace for granted but understand that we have it for a reason. The greatest gift is the gift of salvation and it is also the grace to receive it. Amen.
