One of the things that holds us back from true communion with God is true repentance. God is holy. God is not blind to our sin…God knows all about it. We may be able to fool those around us, but God is not fooled.
We may ask ourselves, “What have we done that is so bad? Our name isn’t in the papers like a murderer. I live a good life. I’m nice to people. I give to the church. What sin?” Brothers and sisters of the Lord, the one thing we have in common as humans is the sin factor. As God digs deep into our hearts, God sees the disagreement we have with Him. That is what sin is…disagreement with God. If you truly do not see where you need to repent, that is the perfect time to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you your sin. God answers prayer. The thing you need to turn from will be revealed. Don’t be afraid to do this very important action…God loves you totally and will forgive you, heal you, and bring you to where you need to be. But we need to make the decision to do it. The church can’t do it for us, our family can’t do it for us, it is your decision alone.
Do we suffer from idolatry? Anything…anything at all…that we put higher on our priority list than God is idolatry. Has God called you to do something for the Kingdom? Has your schedule prevented you from doing this? “Sorry, God, I would love to help you out with this, but I have this event already on the calendar.” I’m sure God understands perfectly and will wait for when your schedule is free…NOT!
The God of all creation, who created you and me, gave us blessing upon blessing upon blessing, walked up that hill to Calvary, was beaten and hung on a cross for you and for me, to save us from our sins, so we could have eternal life, and sent us His Holy Spirit to help us and so we would not be alone and without power to do what He has called us to do…is God worthy of our sacrifice of praise, worship, prayer and lives for His Kingdom? I need to repent, you need to repent, the church as a whole needs to repent. When we come to the end of ourselves and become totally dependent on God, that is where God will be with us in total communion.
Please don’t look to others to gauge where you are on the sin ranking…Jesus Christ is the model to follow. Do you have a fear of failure? We have all failed…admit it, repent of it, and go on with Christ. A spirit of pride will keep you from doing this. Don’t let Satan have that foothold in your life. Rely on the Word of God where He says, “…if my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
What are the consequences if we don’t repent? There will always be a wall between you and God, between our church and God, where God will not give what He fully intends for us to have. Total communion will not be experienced if there is sin that is unconfessed and unrepented. This is a high price to pay.
God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, if we only just let Him.
