Encouragement
People sneer at the lone street preacher on the corner obeying Mark 16:15. “Huh, just a Jesus weirdo,” someone says. A solitary fireman trying to stop the crowd heading for the flames. Not much notice is taken of one man. “Where are all the others?” some might rightly say. That’s generally the status quo. Imagine a different scenario.
What if the labourers in your town were not few, but many? Imagine the lone evangelist becoming two, four, eight, sixteen - almost one for every corner.
Picture this. Alan and Agnes Atheist drive downtown to shop. They pull into the parking lot and Christian bumper stickers challenge them.
They start walking and encounter people wearing Jesus T-shirts; more wearing badges. Dozens more are handing out tracts.
More surprises. Around the corner is another outreach - a group of Christians with musicians - and further up the road another group. More in the city mall. “Hmmm, there must be something in this Jesus business. Can there be this many weirdos?” Agnes Atheist mutters. She shops at the supermarket and T-shirted Christians are everywhere. “Gimme a tract,” she demands.
Now picture that scene multiplied in every town across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, the world! What an effect. Revival!
What an impact on society. We’d have a different world! Now the crowd is heading away from the eternal flames because thousands are giving warning. Can you see it, brother, sister?
Imagine the domino effect. Every church full. Pubs half empty, racetracks too. The Lotto poorly patronised. Drug pushers penniless. No need to lock the house. Crime plummeting. Security guards unemployed. Burglar alarm sales down. Penitentiaries becoming housing estates. Christian TV shows at peak times instead of violence, obscenities and sex. Schools clamouring for scripture teachers. Christian bookshops hiring paid staff. Churches building huge tanks for baptising new converts. Satan fuming!
Christianity would become once more what God always intended it to be—a supernatural faith instead of just another religion.
Far-fetched? No, it could happen. What is required? Prayer yes, but above all —action. Getting into the community with the message. A turnaround in attitude and priorities. A massive rethink about what constitutes “church.” Bible colleges getting in line with the Book of Acts.
Evangelism No 1 on every church’s priority list. Believers able to picture the lake of fire and millions going into it—then wanting to do something about that. Ministers cancelling church socials that have no bearing on the world outside.
Can you catch the vision? Let’s make it happen.
