Christian Living
Our church had to take a step back and look at its goal and compare it with its duties, responsibilities, and obligations.
In the early part of 2004, our community was saddened a grieved by a tragedy that left two families devastated and a community questioning why. A young man killed his girlfriend, her mother, her sister, and her cousin. A few months later, tragedy struck again when another young man who lived in the community killed his ex-girlfriend in the presence of their toddler. If we had been doing what was required of us as a church, could we have saved the offenders and the victims?
The offender in the first slaying lived next door, only a few feet away from the front door of our sanctuary, and the offender of the second slaying was our Pastor’s neighbor up until his arrest.
As people called by God, and who have accepted the calling, why didn’t we do our job to draw those young men to Christ?
It seems that the church is only concerned about those who are coming, when the focus should be those who are not coming. Jesus came to seek and to save those which were lost? Why do we come?
It’s time that every church that proclaims to be a church do the will of the Father and reach out into our communities and save the unsaved, while helping the saved stay on the right track. Where is the church? The church seems to be lost too.
Where is the church in today’s world?
Where is the church to our lost boys and girls?
Where is the church to the resentful heart filled with hate?
Where is the church to the spouse that takes the life of his mate?
Where is the church to a community plagued with drug addictions?
Where is the church to a hospital crowded with so many afflictions?
Where is the church to the unsaved soul?
If the lost are still lost, what is the church’s goal?

Thank you for bringing that to our attention. I have a heart for street ministry, and going door to door, yet other kinds of ministry--Nursing Home and Crisis Lines, along with writing keep me busy--others are covering lots of other needy spaces. There is a wonderful book for group studies in Churches-- SHARING JESUS WITHOUT FEAR, by William Fay. He had an 'amazing grace' transformation that causes the love and joy of Jesus just bubble out of him wherever he goes, and thousands come to know Jesus. Wouldn't that be great if we could all do that?!!! Shall we set our determination to head that direction? God bless you Kimberly and all who read her critiques too. Gerry
Kimberly, thanks for sharing your heart. You know, I think it is true that we can save some, but not all. And I think that sometimes it takes a tragedy to give us a "wake-up" call, to get our priorities straight. The most important thing of all is to listen to the Holy Spirit, and follow his instructions...the ones he leads us to, may be across town, or on the web! I do believe the face of the church, the body of Christ, is most definitely changing, in these days. God bless..Barb
You are so right. The church isn't doing its job and needs to wake up. There's a lost and dying world out there that need us. We need to get out of our four walls and start ministering to the hurting. God bless you.
