When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.” After shrieking and convulsing him violently, the spirit came out. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up. Mark 9:25-27 NIV
First, I notice the mention of a crowd come running. Did Jesus want to drive out the evil spirit before the crowd became too large? Possibly He wanted the healing to be a bit more intimate with a smaller, rather than larger throng.
After Jesus drove out the evil spirit many thought the boy was dead. How could they think this, knowing all the miracles Jesus had already performed? Too many want instant gratification. They are not willing to wait, and they do not wish to make changes to their lives. With Jesus, time is not what matters. He seeks our heart and our faith. He wants to nourish us, and this can take time. Many here were just looking for a miracle, nothing else.
Lastly, notice that Jesus took the young boy by the hand and helped Him to get up. Jesus is near to us and helps to raise us up when we put our faith and trust in Him. He is unlike any other friend we might have. Know that Jesus wishes to be near to you. He waits for you. Go to Him. Seek Him with a humble heart and He you shall find.
