Poetry
Based on: Matthew 7:13, 14; John 14:6
Last night a man had a vision:
A journey he had started to make.
He came all at once to a crossroad.
He pondered which way he should take.
He stopped. He had to consider.
He looked to the left and the right.
The road to the right looked restrictive.
It was narrow, and not very bright.
He wondered, "Where are all the travelers?"
There weren't too many in sight.
The pathway looked so uninviting.
So he turned the other way.
His heart then was filled with excitement:
This highway was wide, bright, and gay.
There were hundreds and hundreds of people.
"Come along!" the crowd seemed to say.
He meandered along to the entrance,
scrutinizing the sign on the gate:
It read, "BROADWAY, the way to great pleasure--
The road to your ultimate fate."
The revelers were shouting and dancing.
No longer need he contemplate.
But behind him he heard a soft whisper:
"I'M THE WAY. Don't make the wrong choice.
"Though this opposite road may be narrow,
At the end you'll have cause to rejoice."
Then he saw an ethereal glowing . . .
With no one attached to the voice.
The man looked again at the choices:
The path to earthly profits and gain:
Well lit, and plenty of company?
The answer seemed simple and plain.
Or that road with the soft glow, and whisper?
"FOLLOW ME." He heard it again.
He turned. He followed the whisper.
The path to the left faded out.
He held out his hand, and Christ took it.
No longer had he any doubt.
He awoke with a feeling so peaceful,
That he jumped from his bed with a shout.
Now he tells all his friends and relations
Of the vision he had on that night.
He wants to make certain they follow
The path with the ethereal light.

Bio: Writing poetry was a new venture to me in 2002, when I wrote this poem. Before that I wrote articles, short stories, and one biographical novel. I didn't know I could write poems, until one day I tried it. So my advice is: You never know what you can do until you try.
God bless you, everyone.

The only road is indeed the one that Christ holds out His hand to you to follow. I just love your poetry, Helen. The Lord has blessed you in writing any way it comes! I've experienced writing in reverse - I started writing poetry in 1982 and over the last couple of years the Lord has led me into article writing. Again any way it comes, to Him be the glory ;)
