God said don’t do it!
What did God say don’t do? We have a problem with doing what God say we should and should not do in this world. Did it start on yesterday? No, it started from the beginning of mankind after we were made flesh.
Genesis 2:15-17 and the Lord took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it, and the Lord commanded the man saying; of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Matthew 1:18 now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise; when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
What was special about this tree that the others did not have? It bear fruit just as the others that was good to eat so what was God’s problem? What did he mean don’t eat of it? This tree was the tree of life, the tree of knowledge of good and evil so why not eat of it? God said don’t eat, just don’t do it. It’s a part of thou shall not God set forth for man to obey Him. Just obey for it is better to obey than suffer sacrifice. Obedience is represented as love to God. Disobedience is represented as sin. God gave man through this lesson the option of a free will. Thou shall not; what part of it that does man not understand?
God had put Adam in the Garden to dress the garden, keep it and protect it (Genesis 2:15). Man however could not work in the natural world for he yet was a spirit being. He could work in that state (Genesis 2:5) so God took dust from the earth and the mist from the rain and made man a body then breathed the breath of life in him and he became a living soul. God supplied man’s need. He planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Man now had hands, feet, arms, eyes, ears, a nose and mouth. He could walk, talk, eat, see, smell, and taste in the natural realm but his thinking or mind was in the heavenly realm. He could see everything in the Spiritual and all was well. He obeyed what God had told him to do. He was able to take care of the home God had given him. Now in Genesis 2:16-17 God gave Adam a command not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Man was alone in the garden now and he worshipped God in his spiritual state every day in the cool of the evening. God saw his loneliness (Genesis 2:18) as He put everything Adam needed in the earth to mate and reproduce on the inside of him. So God (Genesis 2: 21-23) reached inside of him took out one of Adam’s ribs and made him a helpmeet that Adam called woman. Now we know that woman is no longer in man but beside him. She had not become his wife yet for they knew not that they were flesh. God took the female part out of his Creation; the male part. God also took the male out of the woman in Matthew 1:18. Adam was pure and Mary too was pure. God pulled out of them what was pure, clean, sanctified, and holy. They were yet one flesh in Spirit not flesh. Now in the natural when man marries a woman they become one flesh again. They are once again united in Spirit also and should cleave to each other and put no one before the other.
God gave Adam everything and he had dominion over everything in the earth. He named the animals and called the helpmeet woman; for she was bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh. While they enjoyed the beauty of their surroundings and thought on the things that God had done while they were on break from worship with God, their number one enemy had sneaked in on them. Satan had watched them until he could seize the opportunity to present himself to them in a deceitful way. He wanted to rule in heaven and now since he had been kicked out of heaven was not willing to let these new creatures take his place in the heart of God. God had created man to the praise of his glory to glorify Him in Lucifer’s place he once held in heaven. Now since Adam was no longer alone he would work his thing as he watched the woman eyes dwindle over to the tree and was fixated there. Here is my opportunity to get to them and make them go against what God told them.
Everything was holy until (Genesis 3:1-7) when the Devil inserted himself into a serpent (snake) and approached where they stood. Now as the woman looked at the tree they were forbidden to eat of the serpent said to her “Yea hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden”? Adam where are you? She should have called for her husband but instead begin to talk to the serpent while he stood looking on. Why didn’t he protect her from this snake? He must not have been afraid that he would bite her. He bit the both of them but they knew it not at the time. She answered “we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, “ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it lest ye die”. She held a conversation she never should have had and she touched on holy things she understood not. She entertained from a foreign entity what he thought about what God had said instead of walking away. She listened as he called God a lie. He caused her to murder God’s Spirit in them. She put someone else before her husband and her God. Not only that she touched on things God said not to and ate the fruit of the world he forbid them too.
Adam was to deny this foolish thing his wife had done and not eat of her hand. Instead he ate of her hand because he saw that nothing happened to her when she ate. Of course Satan knew nothing would happen when the woman ate for God had told Adam and Adam was to have his wife in compliance with God’s Word. When she gave him to eat also he ate willingly because nothing happening to her deceived him. He allowed things to come upon him that he was never to know about. Their eyes did come open, they were as gods (idols now because they disobeyed God and is on their own), loss their innocence and stand with God. No wonder they hid, they were stripped of everything. They loss their state of holiness which was not so pleasant to their eyes and their desire for the tree brought on new desires. They were fleshly alive and could see each other’s body and they weren’t alike. They had different parts on their body that made him a man and her; a woman.
Now they had to dance to God’s music but how was they going to go before him in this new state for He would know that they ate off of the tree. Genesis 3:8 and they heard the voice of the Lord God “walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. Things had changed, something was wrong. Why were they afraid to come before God? They had lost their state of holiness. No longer were they innocent spiritual beings but live fleshly beings as the animals were. They are just like we are today. God said don’t do it; don’t do it. We know when we have loss our state of Holiness for we no longer feel that innocence that holiness gives.
What Is Holiness
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service and be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Holiness is the state or quality of being holy; perfect moral integrity or purity; freedom from sin; sanctity. In the New Testament Christians are called holy or saints, as wholly consecrated to God’s service. It’s not that we form a goodly nature in a habitual way but we practice not sinning, thinking and acting in a godlike manner. We conform to the innermost being to the will of God with outward manifestations of blameless conduct, living the life of the pure in heart.
Holiness is the gift of God through the mediation of Christ. Everything dedicated to God partakes in a certain manner of his holiness. Holiness signifies that every thought of man, every emotion, every act, every deed, yea all that combines to make up one’s life is determined by the will of god; and thus the old man who has been burdened by worldly lusts and shackled with the chains of the flesh, is cast off, and the new man is fully put on. This is both the work of God and of man. This divine grace comes from God through Christ, and man seize this proffered hand of God, using this sanctifying means of grace with the assistance of God for perfecting his state of purity.
God said we are to walk before Him and to be perfect in that walk. He is the Almighty God and is to be revered as such. We should wear a crown now with Holiness unto the Lord engraved on it. God has established us a holy people unto himself. The way of holiness causes us to hate sin and evil. We are to preserve ourselves in those things that are right that we defile not God’s temples which we live in. We are walking in holiness when we are careful to walk in the laws of God that his righteousness be fulfilled in us.
We are to abhor that which is evil and seek for that which is good and right that we may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Holiness is right and we must have Christ to present us faultless before the throne of grace. He will present us holy and unblameable and unreproveable if we present our bodies holy unto Him. Abstain from fornication, perversion, and any sin that causes us to be separated from God. We are to know how to possess these vessels in sanctification and honor for God has not called us to unrighteousness and uncleanness but unto holiness. We are to cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit that we perfect that holiness before the Lord. Righteousness and unrighteousness does not have communion with each other. Either we are in holiness or we are not.
We cannot drink from the cup or the Lord and the cup of the Devil. We cannot be a partaker with Christ and the Devil. Whatsoever we do should be done to the glory of God. Holiness is a lifestyle after Christ. Don’t we know that our bodies are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in us? If any man defiles the temple of God, God will destroy it for the temple of God is holy.
