Sunday 12/30/12 Pastor Michael sermon = Goodbye / Letting Go of My Past II Cor 13:11
============================================================================================================================================
One of the hardest things to do is letting go of the past. This is not easy and some of the past stuff has shaped us. Saying goodbye means we are saying hello to something new. Let go and say goodbye to 2012 stuff and go into 2013. We need to NOT be stuck in the past. Whether good or bad past things, we need to say goodbye! Looking at 2013, some of us are unprepared because we hold on to things of 2012. We can’t get ready for the New Year till we say goodbye to the old year.
Some of us have pains, rejections, hurts that we need to let go. Don’t be stuck! God has new stuff for us in 2013. Some of us sitting here have been through so much stuff in 2012 that it’s a miracle that we are sitting here in our right mind and going into 2013. We need to say farewell, goodbye and move on while letting go of the things of our past.
1) Rejoice for God has used everything done in our lives to complete us:
Things in our lives have been used to grow us up and to make us better. They have been used to take us from milk to meat and from doubting God to trusting God. Celebrate this, that we are going on and that we have made it through. We’ve grown thru it too. Growth is painful and you cannot have growth without pain. It is like a pregnant woman going thru birthing pains. No pain, no gain! Our painful place has been our best place because it has driven us and caused us to run into God’s arms.
Examine yourself to see how you go thru your test. How we go through determines what is inside of us. Look at your test as the place of your elevation. We should be passing the tests and having triumphs. The test was never meant to tear us away from God but to drive us to God. He is perfecting us, maturing us, growing us up.
2) Rejoice because God is protecting us.
In our hardest times, God is bringing strength to us and he comforts us. He empowers us for what we are to do. Some of us, like autos, need an oil change because of the bad stuff we went thru in 2012. God will give us fresh oil for 2013. God will give us his power to work in our lives. We need to Praise God because he gives us fresh new oil and a break thru for 2013! Fresh oil from God! The church should be like a filling station and gets fresh oil from God. An oil change is needed if we are just going to church just to go. God will fill us up with fresh oil. The oil gives you a coating that covers everything that has happened. It covers and corrects. In our autos, we go get an oil change and it runs better.
3) Rejoice because God is positioning you.
Make peace with everything you have been thru because the new stuff is coming in. We need to say goodbye to the old stuff and hello to the new stuff. The new oil for 2013 comes from God. It is used to get us ready for the New Year. Fresh Oil from God!
