IS THIS OLD SONG TRUE, ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE?
Ephesians 1: 5-12
"Praise His Glory"
He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us. For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fulness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him, according to the purpose of Him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will, we who first hoped in Christ have been destined and appointed to live for the praise of his glory.
Remember this oldie from the fifths?
When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother what will I be
Will I be pretty
Will I be rich
Here's what she said to me
Que sera sera
Whatever will be will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera sera
What will be, will be
A number of years ago, while attending a Christian Youth Rally, the speaker used the theme of this popular songs," Que Sera Sera ( Whatever will be will be) Basing his presentation on Biblical principles, the speaker loving contradicted the lyrics of the song.
One of the speakers most memorable points was when he gave the following quote, " Will I be pretty, will I be rich. Here's what she said to me. Que Sera, Sera, Whatever will be, will be. The future's not ours, to see. Que Sera, Sera ..."
The Bible plainly teaches the future is certainly ours to do with it as we chose , with respect to good versus evil. For you see, from the beginning of civilization, God has given man the free choice for life. In the Garden of Eden man failed, when tempted by Satan himself. And, down through the ages, the prince of this world, Satan, has spread his influence over the entire world.
" For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places". (Ephesians 6:12).
But , praise the Lord, we can overcome these evil persuaders, through the finished work on Calvary's cross. Yes, the future is ours to see. One only need to study God's word.
" For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[Christ Jesus our Lord".( Romans 6:23)
From nature, selectivity is obvious in God's creative activity everywhere. From scripture ( Romans 9; Ephesians 1; Acts 13:48;; Romans 8 27:30).
Yes we do have a choice, as free individuals. In other words, God has given mankind a "free will" to choice right from wrong. To choose salvation over sin. And now it's up to mankind, which road he travels.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."(Matthew 7:13-14)
" But as many as received Him, He gave to them authority to become the children of God, to those who believe on His name, who were born, not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but were born of God. " ( John 1:12-13)
Yes, the future is ours, you see. One need only to take God's free grace, by faith, and merely pray a simple prayer, thanking God for sending His "only begotten Son" to take away your sin and accept His free grace.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast".( Ephesians 2:8-9)
Then start reading the Bible. I suggest starting with the book of John.
"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." ( John 5:39)
And also, find a good Bible believing church to attend.
" And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.( Hebrews 10:25)
I realize this popular song was secular in nature, but we, who claim the name of Christ, know differently, don't we.
Now, let's get busy being "about our Father's business, that of winning "souls"
Amen!!
