He will again have compassion on us, subduing our iniquities, and hurling them all into the depths of the sea. If you’ve ever watched a marathon runner cross the finish line, you’d better understand what this scripture means when it says that the Lord subdues your sin. Bringing into subjection the very bondage that holds you captive, He, like the runner conquers the goal set before Him. Jesus had a very important motive for wanting to run and win the race to conquer death. His prize was your salvation. The sweat and blood from Jesus’ crowned forehead and pierced side was on your behalf because He knew this race is one you could not win.
The battle was between Christ and a demonic adversary, the Devil, who no doubt is a poor looser, continuing to run a race he lost over 2,000 years ago. The race started at the cross of calvary but ended at the tomb where Christ was raised from the grave. Satan continuing to run the race doesn’t change the fact that the race is over and was won by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords because of God’s abounding mercy. Now what about the race you’re running? Your salvation is already secure if you’ve accepted what Jesus won for you, but you to have a race to run as Luke states in Acts 20 “But I don’t count my life of any value, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me, the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.”
In 1st Cor. Chapter 9 it says to run to win the prize with perseverance, fighting the good fight to finish the race, keeping the faith...as Timothy reminds us. Are you keeping the faith, fighting the good fight to finish the race God has set before you? The Word of God talks about going into training, conditioning, and disciplining yourself to win this race. Jesus paid your entrance fee and your faith guarantees you’ll cross the finish line, but it’s up to you how well you run the race. I encourage you to not give up just before the victory where your endeavor will be rewarded with joy and the peace that passes all understanding.
