Daniel's Faith
Praise the Lord!
Hallelujah! All honor and glory be to our Lord Father God Most High! I pray that all of you were able to welcome the New Year with a spirit of praise and worship for our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. In spite of any challenges, struggles, heartbreaks or hardships, God is eternally good and always worthy of all honor and praise.
As we have ended the Christmas season; I am sure that many of you spent time in reflection of the sacrifice that our Lord made in order to “robe himself in flesh” and to become human. I cannot help but think about how he humbled himself and left his throne in glory and allowed himself to be dragged to the cross to die for us.
During the course of our study of Daniel; my attention was called to how Daniel shows a Christ like faith. Daniel is lead away from his home; but in faith submits to God’s calling and serves the enemy in order to be a blessing to his people. It is God’s usage of Daniel’s faith that illuminates the text of the book of Daniel.
If you were to record your own personal definition of faith; how would it read? I discovered as I read through Daniel that my definition of faith could use some debt and expansion. I am ashamed to even list it here in this devotional; so I turned to others for assistance. As one commentary stated; ‘’faith is complete trust and loyalty to God and willing to do His will. Faith is complete and humble obedience to God’s will and a readiness to do whatever he calls Aus to do.” Faith is not just believing in something and knowing that God can do it; but trusting God and doing whatever He calls us to do. This is a challenge to me and to my feeble definition of faith.
I am not sure if my original definition of faith would have allowed me to deny the king’s dietary orders and trust that God’s reward for the fast would be manifested both physically and intellectually(1:11-16). I am not sure if my definition of faith would have allowed me to humbly serve the enemy or pray and expect God to provide supernatural abilities to interpret dreams (1: 3-7, 2:29-44). I am not sure if it would have permitted me to stand in the face of apparent doom and declare whatever the outcome that I would continue to worship and trust God (3:16-18). Would my definition of faith, have tolerated me praying for the sins and transgressions of a disobedient nation and then expecting God’s mercy (9:18)? I have to admit sisters that I am not sure how my definition of faith would have held up in any of those circumstances. Glory be to God that He has supplied us with His word that will continue to increase our faith and nourish our spiritual growth. As my mother often quotes:”Faith is not believing that God can, but believing that He will;” His will and not ours.
So as we continue on this life’s journey and we sometimes struggle with the circumstances of life, look to Daniel’s example of faith and find the cement to strengthen your faith foundation.
To God be the glory!
