Faith
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17; KJV)
Recently, I was alarmed when a particular pop song which I had watched a few times on MTV kept repeating in my mind. With due credit to the artistes involved, it was a catchy song with a pleasantly choreographed dance moves to boot. But, I did not expect that it would creep up on me so effortlessly. It sure wasn’t what I want to occupy my mind with.
Then, I thought why not listen to God’s word on the internet and get the same result. Thus, I re-visited Kenneth Copeland Ministries and watched their media ministry as well as that of Jerry Savelle Ministries International.
Once day while watching Jerry Savelle Ministries’ online broadcast and hearing for the umpteenth time Pastors Jerry and his daughter, Terri, expound on Romans 10:17, that it dawned on me that if hearing God’s word produces faith, why don’t I listen to His word everyday and not restrict it to cell group and service days only. Maybe I am a bit slow to catch on with media technology, but better late than never.
Since then I have been listening to God’s word every day and my faith shield has grown stronger to quench the fiery darts of the adversary. And, I am quietly confident that the word of God which produces faith in me will put me in good stead for more of God’s blessing upon my life.
For sure we can read the word of God during our personal time or even in public that we may gain and/or disperse knowledge and understanding; study the word of God and be as “a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15; NKJV); meditate in God’s word day and night “that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8; NKJV); or memorize God’s word for man shall not live by bread alone and use it as a sword of the Spirit just as Jesus did.
Hearing God’s word is a vital faith-building aspect of sowing His incorruptible seeds into the good ground of our heart (spirit). It will, I believe, together with the other disciplines of accessing God’s word help us to believe more and more the voice of God as opposed to the lies of the devil. Yes, we can listen to God’s word everyday.
By the way, I am now also hearing God’s word through Creflo Dollar Ministries’ online broadcast and will likely be venturing onto Joel Osteen Ministries next. Glory be to God!
