"The Decrease within"
Be Blessed Dear Friend,
"The Decrease within"
John the Baptist said, "I must decrease so He Can Increase". Not sure though, how many times we are actually reminding ourselves about as to how much we need to decrease time and time again so He Can keep Increasing in our lives.
It's really shook me to think...John, the person whom already was living in the wilderness, eating wild honey and locusts (give it a try one day), John's clothes were woven from coarse camel hair and a leather belt only. That's already a clear indication of someone who is in the process of decreasing...and just to make it even more obvious, he said as well..."I am not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals."
In Jewish culture, to remove and carry someone's sandals, even those of a Rabbi, was too lowly a task even for the Rabbi's disciple. It was a job reserved for slaves. That is really a deep thought to ponder on.
Sometimes with our growing faiths, our head size begin to grow as well (proud Christians) which is no longer the attribute of a decreasing person. And at the point of wearing a one size up hat will take away our view of seeing clear. John has kept him self being "decreased" through out his life and his obedience towards God has revealed the fruit which he could not believe. He was the one whom had Baptised The Son of God in the Jordan river. Can you just imagine how he felt when he did that? Here comes a beautiful 33 years old young man, The Son of God, and he dipped Jesus head into the water holding Him with his bare hands.
It must have been an awesome day for John. Because he knew how to be "decreased".
And us? Do we still decrease? Because we know that we should? Or we are not doing it because we have never learned it.
The other day my son asked me..."Dad, who are we to God?" and I could only said to him that we are His "Adoring Spectators".
A "decreased to be" but adoring spectators.
God Bless,
George.
