LEN'S LINES ------A Little Religion On A Positive Note. By Leonard Granger
This Sunday, September 11th, is a date in history we will always remember . For me it has two meanings, first it was my wife's birthday, which she would remind me she was here first before the national disaster. Secondly, that day united our country like few other times in history, as we saw how the world's strongest country could be attacked from the outside. We need to pray that our country is also morally strong and will not be attacked from internal enemies attacking our spiritual structure.
We should pray and praise the Lord often that we live in a country that has Freedom of Religion. It has been a freedom guaranteed by our constitution that we can attend the church of our choice and have a personal relationship with our loving and most gracious Lord. The early founders of our country wanted to be sure we looked to God for guidance and even added "In God We Trust" on our coins and dollar bills.
However, many people today feel Freedom of Religion means freedom from religion and do not attend a church or feel a need to serve the Lord. We see men posting messages on highway billboards stating " We No Longer Need God". Prayer has been taken out of our educational institutions and the National Prayer Breakfast was canceled by our president as he declared we are no longer a Christian nation.
I visited the National Sacramento Valley VA Cemetery located near my farm ,where my wife and other relatives are buried. Almost to the tombstone, I noticed a Christian cross marking on them and some had religious verses and comments engraved in the marble stones. If we are not a Christian nation our veterans who protected the freedoms in our country, will disagree. In wartime as they faced all kinds of danger and harm, our servicemen would turn to the Lord for protection and guidance. They even had a song, " Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition."
Many of the churches across the nation are having a 24 hour prayer chain on September 11th where they have members praying for our Nation, President, Elected Officials, Pastors/Priests, Church Family, and others. The Bible says in 2 Chronicles Chapter 7 Verse 14: " If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land."
Trust this Sunday we will all be attending the church of our choice and worship and praise our Loving and Gracious Lord, Jesus Christ. God Bless America
