my heart was raw
from all the failure
Did I read my Bible enough
How can I somehow stuff
more must do's in my life
So much inner strife!
Have I done enough good deeds
Have I memorized all the creeds
of my church
My legalism left me in the lurch
Must do this
must do that
my todo list was so fat
of items to earn my salvation
What a horrendous creation!
And yet I felt no peace
No hope
Can someone throw me a rope
to pull me out of this pit?
I just can't fit
it all in!
Whoever breaks any of the laws
is guilty of breaking them all?
My hope takes a breathtaking fall
Who could ever do that?
Then Jesus came to me in a dream
What a beautiful face
full of love and grace
"Come to me
I can set you free"
Free
What a beautiful word
Free from trying to earn my salvation
Knowing Jesus has paid it all
I let my must do list fall
from my fingers
And now I read my Bible
not to earn my salvation
For that is done!
Jesus has won!
I read it because
it's a letter of love
From the Father above
I serve not because of an IOU
But to shout to the heavens
Lord I love you!
