A simple commandment
Without any fuss
“A new commandment I give
This is how you must live
Love each other
Each sister and brother”
Jesus didn’t make it a suggestion
Of His intention there is no question
What does it mean to really love?
Follow Christ’s example from above
It isn’t easy
At times it makes me queasy
Because of how hard it is.
But Jesus is our example
From Him we can take a sample
Of what love truly is
Love one another
Love one another
Love one another
That command is a drumbeat
In my mind
But what kind
Of love does He mean?
Loving all others
Even though they don’t earn it
Write down each offense
And then you should burn it!
Forgive it
Don’t relive it
Forgiving isn’t optional
To that I say amen
Forgiveness must stream again and again
Putting others in front of myself
Putting my selfishness on the shelf
To really be free
Remember
It’s not about me
