Knowing there’s no way to win
I’ve broken the law
I have flaw after flaw
There is no hope for me.
I want to withdraw
And forget there’s a law
But I can’t.
The laws I break
The mistakes I make
Are so minor
Aren’t they?
I’ve never murdered
Or have I?
I’ve murdered with my tongue
And kept climbing each rung
Of gossip’s ladder
“Whoever has broken any of the laws”
Oh this gives me pause
“Is guilty of breaking them all”
And thus begins my fall
Into despair
I try not to care
About the law
As I say pshaw!
It’s old-fashioned
Out of date
Based on hate
But I deceive myself.
As I put my conscience on the shelf
And make my home in my pit
That’s all I am fit
For
And then…
A hand reaches out to me
Pulls me out of the pit
Pulls me out of despair
Jesus reaches to me from above
And I can feel a blanket of love
Here is the answer
To my hopeless plight
Jesus flooding my darkness
With light
Love wins
Because Jesus died for my sins
