I could not get inside.
The locked gate would not open up,
No matter how I tried.
I’d read this was a wondrous place
That Jesus had prepared
For all those who would follow Him,
And I was one who’d dared.
As I’d approached the gates of pearl,
The sound of music drew me,
And thoughts of loved ones waiting there
Sent gladness surging through me.
I Knocked and knocked for quite some time,
But still nobody came,
Till all at once, I heard a voice,
And Someone called my name.
‘Twas Christ himself who held the key.
His visage was so sweet,
I took the crowns I’d carried there
And laid them at His feel.
“Come in, My child,” my Savior said.
“I paid your entrance fee
When my death, buried all your sin
Within the deepest sea.”
Then suddenly did I awake,
And great joy did I feel.
Because of Jesus’ sacrifice,
My hope of heaven’s real.
