I Am a Member of the Elect?

I am a member of the elect?
How could it be that God would ever select
Me?

I find it hard to fit in my mind
That the King of the universe would be so kind
To choose me as one of His own
My joy and faith have grown

What does it mean
To be the elect
That question gives
Me pause to reflect

Do my actions glorify His name
Or do they continually bring it shame

as a member of the elect.
I will be sure to always reject.
Any condition
That is not worthy of my situation.

as a member of the elect.
I will be sure to always select.
Actions that are pleasing to him

Offense, envy, jealousy, and strife
Are qualities that can stain my life

These qualities I must reject
If I am to live as one of the elect

Again the question repeats in my brain
As I reflect upon this refrain

I am a member of the elect?
How could it be that God would ever select
Me?
