Our last dog had crossed the Rainbow Bridge
Leaving a hole in our hearts

My goodness
How loss really smarts

This would be our final pet
We had vowed we would not get
Another dog

Boarding
Grooming
Vets
It all gets
Too expensive

No we’re better off
Without
A dog

And yet
Without a pet

The house
And my heart
Are so empty

Depression comes upon me so deep
I can’t even sleep
I cannot keep
This going

What does my sister (my roommate) do
She goes out and buys us new

Puppies!

They lick my face
And through furry signs of God’s grace
My depression starts to lift
Because of my sister’s gift

It's all so new
New challenges
New joys
From our “furry boys”

God's gifts are new every morning
He brings us out of our mourning
With puppies
And babies
And sunrises
All new

I see God’s love and God’s grace
On each furry face
Of my puppies

This is so sweet. Pets have definitely made a difference in my life. Your poem came at just the right time because I just found a dog accident and grumbled about what a pain they are. And I just leg them out not even 30 minutes ago and one is barking to go out again. So I've been a bit grumpy, but your message reminded me why it's worth it to have dogs even if they miss the puppy pad and poop right by the door! You did a great job of writing on topic too!

I'm glad you got new puppies. You showed the sadness well and I understand as our cat crossed the "Rainbow Bridge" this year. But praise God that you can rejoice in the newness of life!
