now they’re empty
Empty of camels.
Empty of sheep
My sorrow is deep
Empty of children
My ten children now dead
My head
Is full of questions
The only one who could hold me
and comfort my loss,
is wrapped in the agony of boils.
Around my heart coils
An icy snake of loneliness
Words of grief ripped out of my soul
Where once there was fullness
There is now a huge hole
Full of despair
Does God even care?
Is God even there?
Full of grief
Bitterness spills out of my mouth
My emotions go south
I say to Job
Tell your integrity goodbye
Curse God and die!
But then
God and Job have a wonderful talk
Even in all this
Job continues to walk
with God
And in the torrent of grief
That overwhelmed my soul
God reached down
And filled that hole
With Himself.
And I am no longer
Empty
